China Supplier Product Version Changed: How Buyers Should Control Details

Product version changes are common in sourcing. A supplier may update material, color, packaging, accessory, mold or component without explaining every detail clearly.

What to control

  • Model number and product version.
  • Material, size, color and finish.
  • Accessories and spare parts.
  • Logo and packaging details.
  • Approved sample photos and notes.

Common issue

The buyer may approve one sample, while the supplier later uses a slightly different stock version or component. Without a written record, it is difficult to compare clearly.

Recommended action

  1. Create a product specification sheet.
  2. Ask the supplier to confirm any version change in writing.
  3. Compare new photos with the approved sample.
  4. Keep all version records in one folder.

Recommended service

Use Product Risk Report for product detail review, or Sample Sourcing & Coordination for sample-stage tracking.
